First read of the new year*! 💀🍁🐐 The Bone Houses is about a gravedigger and a mapmaker who go on an adventure to quell an undead uprising! It’s charming, atmospheric, and has some beautiful prose. It managed to feel both lighthearted and haunting, in a wonderful way! I somehow devoured it in just FIVE days! (Which is reaaaally fast for me.) Going in, I had no idea there was going to be chronic pain rep, and I was so pleasantly surprised by how well-executed & authentic it felt. It had me cringing in solidarity. (In a good way, haha.) Oh and it has the *best* goat ever 🐐 What is (or what will be) your first read of 2020? 📚 (*TBH I read most of it in 2019 but finished it at like 1:30 AM on New Years’ Eve so that counts don’t @ me)
