Story Fuel #1: Underwater Archaeology

Posted by in Story Fuel, Writing Craft

Story Fuel is a new series I’m starting to inspire fellow writers (and myself!) to get the juices flowing for new story ideas!

Each post will feature an article, historic account, image, etc., that could be used as a concept for science fiction or fantasy stories. I’ll supply the fuel and few concept branches to get the inspiration flowing.

Hit me up in the comments with your ideas!

YA Paranormal / Mystery

*SPOOKY HANDS*

Story Fuel 1 – Low Fantasy

Low (Portal?) Fantasy

A jaded state archeologist makes the find of a lifetime, but realizes if she declares it, the site will be taken into federal custody. She explores the site on her own, and… [drama! plot! stakes!].

OR… She stumbles into a mysterious world/is sent back in time, where she must [learn lessons] for [character growth].

Story Fuel 1 – Fantasy

Fantasy

A seafaring society has built up on the water around the site, and the citizens revere the dead buried there as the once-mortal vessels of their gods. Think a fantasy version of WATERWORLD.

Story Fuel 1 – Science Fiction

Science Fiction

Said burial site is in fact, you guessed it, a submerged alien vessel that crashed thousands of years ago. When the site’s disturbed after millennia… [plot happens].

It’s TOMMYKNOCKERS meets JAWS.

Or TOMMYKNOCKERS meets PROMETHEUS. Yeahhh.
